Did you know you can extract oils from your microwave? Usually pure, therapeutic- grade essential oils are extracted two methods; steam distillation or expression. Steam distillation is the most common method. Plant material is placed in extraction method, where being heated steam and oil rise then when cooled, essential oil sets on top of the water (condensed steam). The expression method is where you mechanically press the oils from the plant, most likely from the peel or rind. Oil Extech created a way to extract oils from the microwave. The EssenEx essential oil extractor is an apparatus that fits into your home microwave and allows you to extract your favorite scented oils. It takes up to four hours by the distillation, but only minutes to get an average of 3.5 grams of oils the EssenEx way. Which one is a true better solution to extract oils?

Now you are making me wonder if I could make some of my own of the more common oils. Can you buy the apparatus for the microwave way? If so, how much is it? Maybe you could try making some of your own!

You can order EsseneEx- 100 Essential Oil Home Extraction Kit from oilextech.com. A complete kit can cost up to $180. It includes an extractor, flask, pipettes, dram vials, ice mold mug, extra shielding, and extra materials like pipettes and containers for your essential oils. If you think about it, the complete kit is reasonably price. You can just get a starter kit that doesn't include the extra vials and pipettes. You only save $30 though. Or you can buy a double pack for $345 to save $15. I might have to try making oils of my own then comparing them to already extracted oils. There's another project added to my To- Do List.

This is so neat. I love essential oils and we use them in our house all the time. I know that some of them are kind of expensive though, so to be able to get them yourself would be super helpful.

Whether defrosting meat or cooking frozen veggies, a microwave is essential.
