Lately in Steam Sci I have been researching more ways to better my photography, through small factors to change while capturing, to larger ideas to better technique and quality. Since last time I posted, I have been focusing more on people and portrait technique and ideas. I have learned when capturing photos of babies, different skills such as taking photos after they have ate, or just woken up. These times they are less prone to be grouchy, and will be more alert than other times throughout the day. Also with newborns I have learned that it is best to use natural lighting, over flash photography because the flash can easily scare them. With children, it is best that you keep sessions shorter, and keep the children entertained by playing simple games with them, or something along this so they do not lose interest. You can also ask them if they are able to see their reflection in the camera lens, this way they are looking directly at you and not away. While taking photos outside in yards or landscaping, make sure that you are always careful, because colors could easily make a cast on features, giving your face a sickly color! Also, in later evening, sunlight on a patio will reflect warm light. Until researching the topic, I did not think much about using window light for natural light photos, along with a reflector to help out. When using window light, you need to make sure that you position your model at an angle, to the window so that the light is not straight on them, and use a silver reflector to open any shade along the face, and better the photo quality. I've also been working on some editing. With this I've been learning about how exposure levels, contrast levels, and how they effect photos. I have learned that most photos I take, look better with lower exposure, and higher contrast, because of the angles and lighting that I use. Above I have attached a few photos that I have been working on editing. |
