The brain truly is one of the most compelling organs in the entire body. It controls all necessary functions of the body and receives and interprets information. It is also incredible to think that our brain receives all this information from our five senses: hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. This vital organ, along with the spinal cord, make up the central nervous system, which serves as the starting point for nerve branches.
My favorite part of learning about the brain is seeing what lobe is responsible for what duties. The frontal lobe is responsible for behavior, emotions, judgement, planning, problem solving, speech, body movement, and intelligence. As you can see, damage to this area could be devastating. The parietal lobe interprets words, and signals from vision and hearing. It is also responsible for the sense of touch and pain. The only thing that the occipital lobe works with is interpreting vision. So damage to this area would make it harder to detect color and light. The temporal lobe is responsible for hearing and understanding language. But the most important thing it is responsible for is memory. If someone suffered a severe blow to the head and can not remember anything, it is due to his temporal lobe being damaged.
